We bought eleven outdoor sets, left them on an exposed terrace for twelve months and re-measured every joint, fixing and fabric at the end. Four failed. The pattern was consistent enough to make buying advice simple.
Mild-steel bolts in an aluminium frame bled rust down two sets within six months. Look for A4 stainless fixings and reject anything that will not tell you.
Solution-dyed acrylic keeps its colour because the pigment is in the fibre. Printed polyester faded visibly on the south-facing side in one summer.
UV-stabilised HDPE weave survived; cheap PVC rattan went brittle and snapped at the arm joints in a single hot season.
Breathable covers with a raised centre shed water. Sealed tarpaulins hold condensation and were the single biggest cause of mould in our test.
