The best bedrooms are quiet in every sense: fewer colours, softer materials, and lighting you can turn down rather than off.
Linen, wool and untreated timber carry a room without needing a strong palette. Three textures in one tonal family is usually enough.
Bedside lights you can dim, plus one low source for the middle of the night. Avoid overhead light after 9pm entirely.
Get the frame and headboard height right first — everything else in a bedroom is arranged around it.
